Note: A compilation of data from Maudine Powers Rand: "Daniel Davidson Powers was born in Reily Township, Butler Co., Ohio, 22 August 1825 and died at his home near Kincaid, Kansas on 7 February 1898. He is buried in the Fairview Cemetery three miles East of Mildred, Kansas in the Powers plot with his wife and some of his children and grandchildren.
He was the youngest son of Aaron Powers and Martha Colby. Some of you may not have the POWERS family history, so I will very briefly give the immediate family history.
Aaron Powers was born in New London County, Connecticut on 1 February 1782. He was the son of Nicholas Powers and Phebe Douglas of New London County, Conn. The parents of Nicholas Powers were Michael Powers and Hannah Fox. The marriage of Michael Powers and Hannah Fox is told in "The Diary of Joshua Hempstead". I have the will of Michael Powers, the estate papers of Nicholas Powers, and the will of Aaron Powers (all photocopies). If anyone is interested in more details, will be glad to share.
Daniel Davidson moved to Greenbush Township, Warren County, Illinois, with his parents in 1839. There he met his future wife and was married 24 December, 1850 to Marie (Mary) Damitz.
Marie E. Damitz was born in Judenhagen, Prussia on 29 March 1831. She was the daughter of Ernst Otto Wilhelm Franz von Damitz and Pauline Ernestine Friederike Wetzel. Her family belonged to the nobility when they lived in Germany and we have the genealogy going back to 1243 when first documented. Marie had a good voice and is said to have entertained the captain of the boat with her songs on the way to America when she was 16 years old. Had they stayed in Germany, she would have trained to be a prima donna.
Daniel Davidson was a farmer. They lived in Greenbush Twsp. until 1867, when they moved to Kansas. He bought a farm near the town of Kincaid. This was then called Ozark Township, and later changed to Rich Township. He and Martin Luther Powers built a house there near the creek, planted an orchard, and farmed. He also had a sorghum mill. I have a letter written in reply to him from A.A. Denton explaining the principle of compressed air, and explaining the air freezing or ice machines. This was 1885."
It is said that Daniel Davidson Powers wouldn't allow a Bible in the house. We speculate that he may have been of the Mormon faith.
