Samuel Davis was Lt. Col, and possibly a Captain in the CSA. He watched his house being burned down by Tinker Dave Beaty, along with his outbuildings, and food stocks. He and his family had to hide in the woods to save his life. According to legend, one of Col. Sam's slave girls heard Tinker Dave bragging in Hilham how he would kill Sam, got on her horse, and galloped back to the farm to warn him.\

Col Sam lived with Isham Johns(t)on in 1850 when Sam was 15. At this time, it is not known why, unless he was helping on the farm. Isham's wife was Mary, (Polly) Harp and they seemed to have no living children. However, in the 1830 census there was a teen aged female living with them. At this time it is not known who she was. Col. Sam's parents, Elijah Davis and Elizabeth Harp. There was another William Davis, married to an Elizabeth Keene in Overton Co. at the same time, with a son named Samuel Trammel Davis.

May have bought land in Arkansas along with other Davises, Harps, Bohannons, and Isaac Johnson, in 1854.
