My Tramel records show William Baten (sometimes also William Baton) as born in Virginia, Maryland or South Carolina and I have seen all three listed for him. My original records from my grandmother did not list a spouse for William Baten, but many of the researchers list Mary Elizabeth Parish as his spouse and also list Annis Fisher as another spouse. I show William Baten with 9 children, John Frazier b. abt 1798, Thomas, b. 1802, Shardrick, born 11 Jan 1806, Dennis, b. 1814, Annis, Daniel H, b. abt 1818, Mary, b. abt 1820, James A, b. 1826, and Johnson b. 30 Dec 1828. My grandmother did not have any records before William Baten but many of the researchers list him as the son of John Tramel and Ann ?. John was the son of John Tramel b. abt 1700 and Susannah Harle. I show siblings as William T, b. abt 1720, Sampson, Elizabeth, Lettice, Susannah, Milca. John was also the son of another John Tramel b. abt 15 Feb 1674/75, and Mary Gerrard, b. abt 1675, They had at least 7 children, Mary Ann b. abt 1698, John, b. abt 1700, Gerrard, b. abt 1702, William T. b. abt 1704, Daniel b. abt 1707, Thomas b. abt 1710 and Sampson b. abt 1710. I show John as the son of Thomas b. abt 1649 and Mary Alice Williams. They had at least 4 children, Anne, Thomas, Elizabeth, and John. I show Thomas as the son of Phillip, b. 1637 in Kent England. Phillip was reported to be the son of Thomas b. abt 1617, and Dorthy Boys. They were also listed with a daughter, Aphra.
I don't know how accurate that is and I have seen some of it reported to be in error and then reported as proven. I can't attest to it either way. I have a lot of other dates of death and places of birth and death and marriages if you have specific questions, let me know and I will let you know what I have for what it is worth.

Argument that William Baten Tramel (DeKalb Co. TN) is the son of William T. Trammell of Greeneville NC
While many researchers list William Baten (Baton) Tramel as being descended from John and Susan (Harle) Trammell, I believe this to be incorrect. I believe he descends from Daniel, John’s brother. Daniel had a son, William T. Trammell, whom I believe is the father of William Baten.
(1) The 1782 Rutherford Co. NC Tax Records show Peter Trammell and Thomas Trammell, while the 1779 South Carolina Census for the 96th District shows Thomas Tramel and Daniel Trammell. William T. Trammell is the son of Daniel.
(2) In 1790 three brothers (Jesse TRAMMELL, John TRAMMELL, and William TRAMMELL) were listed as living in Greenville County.
Jesse plus one white male over 16, and three white females;
John plus one white male over 16, one male under 16, and two females;
William plus two white males under 16, three white females, and one slave.
At the same time Nicolas Fisher, father of Anice Fisher (Wm. Baten Tramel’s wife), is listed living in Greenville, as well as Anice’s brothers, James and John.
(3) The 1800 Spartanburg Census lists Samson Trammil - two males under 10, one male 45 or older, and two females between 16 and 26.
At the same time the 1800 Greenville, SC Census list the following:
Jesse Trammell with 1 male 26-45, 1 female under 10, and 1 female 16-26
Known as the brother of William T. Trammell. Jesse was born 1763 in Greenville District SC
m. Sarah Forrester also born in Greeneville. In 1800 they had one daughter, Minerva.
Benjn Trammell with 2 males under 10, 1 male 16-26, 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-16, 1 female 26-45
Benjamin is also known as a brother to William T. Trammell, born in South Carolina.
m. Nancy ?
Shadarack Trammell with 1 male under 10, 1 male 16-26, 1 female 16-26
Shadrack (Shadarack) is listed as a son of William T. Trammell, born in 1777 SC and married to Sena Tubb, born 1780.
Wm Tramill Senr (Similar listing in 1790) Three males under 10, two males 10 to 16, one male 26 to 45, one female under 10, one female 16 to 26, and one female over 45. - 32010/10101
This is believed to be William T. Trammell. He was born in 1754 and was married to Mary Zilphia Lynch, born in 1756 Greenville, SC. In 1800 he would have had four of his sons living with him. Jacob b. 1790, Jehu b. 1791, Javan b. 1795, and Robert b. 1788. If the theory that Tennessee Lucinda Tramel, who later married John Fisher, is William Baten Tramel’s sister, (b. 1785) she would account for the one female 16-26.
? Wm Tramell Junr with 1 male under 10, 1 male 26-45, 2 females under 10, 2 female 16-26????
This is believed to be William Baten Tramel. Born 1775/76 he was married to Anice Fisher and in 1800 had one son, John Frazier b. 1798. The two females cannot be accounted for but further evidence points to this being William Baten.

All these Fishers listed are known as Anice (Fisher) Tramel’s brothers and nephews. William Tubbs Senior was the father of James Tubb, who was married to Anice (Fisher) Tramel’s sister, Mary Ann Fisher. Samuel Tubb is James’ brother. James Tubb was also executor of Nicolas Fisher’s (Anice’s Father) will in 1790. The Trammell, Fisher, and Tubb families migrated to Smith (DeKalb) and Warren Counties in Tennessee in the early 1800’s.
All of these listings are located on the same page, indicating they all live close to each other.
(4) Another point is the name Shadrack. In my extensive Trammell line (I have Trammell lineage from VA, SC, NC, GA, IL, TX, and TN) the name Shadrack seems to be rare. Wm. Baten named one of his sons Shadrack, and several generations afterward used this name, sometimes shortened to “Shade.” If this theory is correct, the Shadrack listed above would be Wm. Baten’s brother, leaving a namesake for other generations.
Possible Tramel/Trammell Family Line?
William T. b. 1754, Fairfax County, VA - d. 12-17-1843, Macon County, NC
m. Mary Zilphia Lynch b. 1756 Greenville, SC – d. 1836 Macon Co. NC - in 1781 Jonesboro Co. NC
m. Sara Reynolds b. 1800 on 12- 26-1836 in Greenville Co. SC
William Trammell enlisted in the Continental Army, South Carolina under Captain David Duff and served in the siege of Savannah and at King's Mountain, 1781.
Volunteered in Spartanburg District, South Carolina and served during the Revolution, as a private in Captain Daniel Duff's Company, Colonel Thomas Brandon's Regiment of South Carolina Militia. General Sumtar's Brigade, and also under Colonel Washington in the Cavalry, for about three years. He was engaged at the siege of Savannah, and in the battle of Kings Mountain and Cowpens, He was wounded in the service and was pensioned by the state of South Carolina , on account of disability resulting from said wound, the nature of which and the dates of his enlistment and discharge are not stated. He was a resident of Union and Greenville Districts, South Carolina
He later moved to GA, lived with sons there and in Macon Co., NC. He died in Macon Co., DEC 17, 1843. William was wounded at The Battle of Kings Mountain, he enlisted while a resident of Union Co., SC. The pension does not say that he lost an arm there, but family tradition does.
After the death of his first wife Mary Zelpha Lynch, he married again late in life, to Sarah Reynolds. She did not stay with him and he moved in with a son in Macon County, North Carolina where he later died.
I understand that he died in Macon Co., NC and is buried there. He signed a deed in Buncombe Co., NC Dec. 9, 1809. Another one March 6, 1835 in Buncombe Co., NC. He was on the 1820 and the 1830 Buncombe Co., NC. His father died 1777 Union Dist, SC. William received and sold his land in SC, probably was in NC at the end of the ARW.
