PLACE name: Most US place names now conform to a new standard and end with United States. In addition they have been put through a filter that verifies the spelling and existance of such place. Places that still end in USA have not yet been verified.
FEB 2009: FORMAT CHANGE: Place names had been entered with "Co," following the county name. The "Co" is NO LONGER included. CAUTION, if you try to make similar changes in your database be very careful if you use Global Search and Replace". You might get an unexpected result. Make a good backup so you can get back if necessary.

We are now located in Fayetteville, NY (an eastern suburb of Syracuse, NY) and within a mile of our son, Tom.
    OCTOBER 2008 NOTICE
For most of the last 60 years we have lived in the Rochester, NY area. Our son's employment moved him to Syracuse, NY area in Sept 2008. We feel we should live near him and have moved to Fayetteville, NY, about 80 miles east of Rochester. My NEW E-MAIL address is GS-Killian@twcny.rr.com This will appear at any RootsWeb update. [The "GS" stands for George & Shirley].

This database was first placed on the Web in Feb 2002 and is periodically updated with changes, corrections and additions, I try to do an update on, or right after the first of each month. Starting May 2007 my pedigree is NOT displayed at RootsWeb in order to reduce the possibility of ID theft. My details are displayed as I have made an entry on the line that would normally show my death date. Names, dates, notes & places etc are not shown for other living people.

Many names were added in July 2008. They are mostly those with WRIGHT ancestry.

! 1 July 2008. It is not included herein, but you should know that in recent months some remarkable advancement has been made in identifying the ancestry of Andreas Killian. Also there has been a breakthrough with information of more of the descendants of Andreas' children, specifically with respect to Brina (and that may not be the correct name). This work has been done by Ed Killian with others.

    !1 Apr 2008. Now 66,826 names.

!Feb 2008 Added several Obits in the Manley & Wray names and relatives.
!Nov 2007 several hundred place names were improved/corrected. This was mostly making the entry conform to standards and/or correcting spelling and punctuation.

!12 Oct 2007 MAJOR MODIFICATION The descendants of George Killian [RIN 58], son of Andreas Killian [RIN 51], as previously recorded in this database have been deleted and replaced with a file of some his early descendants as provided by gedcom by Edward Royce Killian [RIN 4637]. Edward has a file on the internet with much more complete data and notes than were included herein.
    See http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/k/i/l/Ed-R-Killian/index.html
See also http://www.andreaskillian.com for several links to lots of other Killian data.
No RINs for any people outside of George Killian [RIN58] descendants were changed during this major modification.

!Oct 2007. When writing to me please refer to the number associated with a name. I get lots of correspondence and as a very senior citizen I can't remember all the past correspondence,
!July 2007 now 66,400 names. About 2,000 New Killian descendants from old 1999 files.
!May 20077; About 30 people were added to show the relationship of Jon SMITH RIN 42789 to others in this database.
!April 2007; Data and names were added or modified for about three dozen of the descendants of Thomas MANLEY RIN 54372. In addition a few dozen descendants of Leon or Legion BOLLINGER RIN 4682 were added.
Jan 2007 added a couple dozen MANLEY names and some additional Manley descendants.
Sep 2006 added several names from old files. And over 200 descendants of Andrew Jackson KILLIAN RIN 51760 Now 64,524 names
Sep 2006 Added about 300 descendants of John Franklin KILLIAN RIN 1745. Now 64,270 names. 21 Aug 2006 added about 130 HICKOK names from 1954 files, 15 Jul 06 added abt 36 descendants of Joseph Thaddeus BREWER RIN 20391
I HAD A MINOR STROKE ON 19 JUN 2006. It appears there may be a virtually full recovery. At first my speech was slurred and my writing was poor. Four hospital days and new prescriptions helped. But what of the future? If "Living" with a current month does not appear on the "death" line for my name it will probably mean I am unable to update this database. No one in the family is prepped to maintain the database.
March 2007: Prior to this time when I did not know the surname of a wife I listed her only by her given name(s). Now, in accordance with a widely used standard, I am showing such female as: Mrs. Given name, husband's Surname.
May & Jun 2006: added over 100 descendants for Frances Killian RIN 4262 and also over 100 descendants of Gideon Bridgman RIN 31844. Also a few with Killian and Prevallet ancestry
Feb & Mar 2006: Added considerable information and details from the 1920s research papers of Albert Benjamin WRAY RIN 231, the maternal grandfather of the compiler, George W. KILLIAN RIN1, By travel and correspondence he gathered information on his Ancestors and relatives. Subsequent additions by his daughter Leota May WRAY RIN 6, mother of the compiler, are included.
DNA: I have submitted DNA to establish if Andreas KILLIAN RIN 51 is an ancestor. In Mar 2006 the results showed a 99% probability I am descended from Andreas Killian, RIN 51,

11 Feb 2006: Added a few dozen descendants for William C. Killian RIN 7508. Extracted from the files of Bill HINDS RIN 5913

31 Jan 2006 Information for this database was collected starting prior to 1970. In 1973 I moved cross country and many files were packed away and not opened until recently. I am now in the process of reviewing the early correspondence and adding information to the database. This process will continue for a long time. It has already added a few dozen new names and lots of new data.
Jan 2006. Major revisions removing all known duplicate names (I use an auxiliary program to help identify duplicate names)

April 2005 STARTING IMMEDIATELY I expect to spend less time adding to this database. Additions and corrections will be made to existing names. Also additions for close relatives of mine. Large groups of names will not be added unless submitted in the form of a gedcom with names, dates and places submitted in a format similar to that used herein.
Several paragraphs are included with information about this database.

Comments about recent Updates are at the top.
There is a CONTENTS list below and notes about several subjects about this database.

    ADDITIONS, CORRECTIONS and UPDATES
Please send me any additions or corrections to this data. When possible please use a gedcom by email. I do not add information on people who are not within the definition of WHO IS IN THIS DATA BASE - see below. You are respectfully invited to submit corrections or additions to this database to me, George W. Killian, with documentation where available. To send e-mail to me you may click on my name near the top of any page at RootsWeb. Please indicate the ID number (same as my RIN) for the individual to whom reference is made. Please bear in mind that I have a heavy correspondence load and am not always able to respond to all queries. My personal database gets updates almost daily. It is updated on the Internet as often as changes make it appropriate. Updates on the Internet are seldom more than ten days apart.
    ANDREAS' ANCESTORS:
In about 1945 my father, Cletus H. Killian, RIN 5, identified a man he thought was the father of Andreas. It was Johannes Philip Wolfgang KILIAN RIN 937 (note only one "L" in the name). About four serious genealogists have made a serious attempt to prove this is either right or wrong. To the best of my knowledge it has not been proven either way. However, by about 1998, I felt the weight of the evidence was against the relationship. Thus I no longer show them as related in this database. But the names remain. If they had been related the Killian line would have gone back to 1516.
    ANDREAS? DESCENDANTS
A chart of the known descendants of each of his 12 children is at the bottom of these notes
    ANDREAS KILLIAN:
Andreas, RIN 51, is an ancestor of the Killians in this database. He is the earliest Killian (in this data base) in America. He arrived in Philadelphia, PA in 1732 from Germany. He was in NC by 1750 and died there in 1788. He had 12 adult children mentioned in his will, six boys and six girls. In this database there are descendants for all but one of the children. The total number of people in families whose children look to Andreas as an ancestor exceeds 35,000.
    BOOKS RELATING TO KILLIANS:
    may be found at: <http://genealogy.org/~green/killian/kbooks/.html>
CONTACTING A LIVING PERSON whose name is in this database:
If you desire to contact anyone still living, or thought to be still living, please correspond with me by E-mail, and state a reason for seeking to contact the person. Provide your name, address and phone number as well as your E-mail address. If possible please identify yourself in this database, or your closest relative, using the RIN. I will pass your request to the living person (if I have the information). It will then be up to the person to decide if they choose to contact you.
    DATES PLACES and INDIVIDUAL NOTES:
Ideally these are in my computer for everybody. However, they are NOT displayed by RootsWeb for LIVING people. If there are no notes for a deceased person I have none. However, my database may include confidential notes for both the living and the dead. All such confidential notes are filtered and excluded from the Internet site. DATES are always written with three letters for the month and four digits for the year. State names are spelled out to avoid possible confusion with international locations. Hospitals, cemeteries, churches etc are identified in the notes, not in the Place. Places comprise geographic locations only.
    FAMOUS RELATIVES and their RINs
31755 Miles Morgan, progenitor of J. P. Morgan (banker)
    31681 Millard Fillmore, President
    31702 John Calvin Coolidge, President
    31718 Franklin Delano Roosevelt, President
31929 Samuel Adams, signer of the Declaration of Independence
31869 Ulysses Simpson Grant, General and President
31874 Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, English Prime Minister
4738 James Robert Killian, science advisor to Pres Eisenhower and Pres of MIT
There are several others including some that go into English and other royalty.
FINDING A SPECIFIC PERSON (in the database on the Web)
To find a specific person, by name, (on the RootsWeb site) scroll down, on any individual's screen, and select "Index" then fill in the name, as instructed above a box, and click on "List". Finding a person by the "ID" or "RIN (The digits are the same) is different. Start from any individual you have on the screen. Look at the "address" line at the top of the screen and note that it ends with "=I" (the letter "I" not the digit "1") followed by a few digits. Click on this line (make sure it is not highlighted) and delete the digits (do not delete the "=I") and enter the desired RIN or ID number. (Enter only the digits, not the letters). Then press "Enter" the desired RIN and corresponding name will be displayed. You can navigate through the name using the Pedigree feature.
    HISTORY of THIS DATA BASE:
My (George W. Killian) database started on index cards about 1950. In 1989 it had a couple thousand names and I began to put it in a computer. The earliest data was, of course, personal and family information. Other early data comprised information accumulated by John Yates Killian [RIN 4660], Thomas D. Killian [RIN 3999] and my own father, Cletus H. Killian [RIN 5] who did their work independently from 1930 to about 1952. Below I have shown a chart of the growth of the database. The Database was put on the Internet in Feb 2002

Since the database was put on the Web a substantial portion of the additional names have been provide by people contributing data. My object is to share the information and enlarge it so that it will be available to future generations to use as a basis for their research. Data relating to many descendants of Leonard Killian, son of Andreas Killian, have been provided by William HINDS RIN 5913. Most notes for such people now give the Internet site where his database may be found. It is most convenient to exchange information using a gedcom and email.
    INFO-IN:
This title with an individual's note indicates the person, by name and RIN, who provided at least some of the information about the individual.
    INFO-OUT:
This title on an individual's note indicates that he/she provided information included in this database. Usually there will be an indication of the range of people for whom information was provided.
    LDS ORDINANCES:
What is LDS ordinance data? Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often called Mormons or LDS) follow their interpretation of a scripture written by the Apostle Paul which is found at First Corinthians 15:29. This scripture refers to "baptism for the dead". Thus LDS members perform vicarious baptisms (and other) ordinances for their deceased ancestors and relatives. More than 270 of Andreas' descendants have been LDS by birth, and many more by conversion. LDS ordinances have been performed for approximately 25% of the people in this database. Many names in this database have been obtained from LDS records of ordinance work completed.
    LIVING PEOPLE:
Names, dates, places and notes for living people are included in my PC when known. However, RootsWeb, as a matter of policy, removes the name, dates, places and notes that relate to Living people and only the word "Living" is displayed. Because I have made an entry on the line that would normally display my death date RootsWeb thinks I am dead and displays my personal data
    NAMES
Women are listed only by their maiden name. Surnames are usually in CAPITALS, even in the notes. Virtually all of the information contained herein could be obtained from public records. Accordingly, it is presumed that all information, provided by others, may be shared on this web site. In addition, from time to time, I may provide copies of this data to the largest genealogical library in the world, namely The Family History Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Men who have the same name as their father may or may not have Jr or Junior included with their name. However, if it is not with the name there is usually a note about his being a Jr. Titles such as "Dr.", "Capt.", "Rev." etc are included on a title line, not as part of the name, although the title is displayed in most views. Children are usually listed in alpha order when known. Some birth dates are clearly wrong, but are the best known at this time. In many cases research could provide better answers.
    NOTES Associated with Individuals:
Notes are associated with many individuals and may include such headings as Birth, Death, Burial, Occupation or any of several other titles. When "I" and "me" are used in the notes it refers to me, George W. Killian RIN 1, the compiler, unless it is in a quote, such as an obituary, or otherwise obvious that it is some other person. For INFO-OUT and INFO-IN see headings above.
    OTHER KILLIAN DATA BASE SITES:
William Lee HINDS RIN 5913 has made a careful study of the children of Leonard Killian RIN 54, a son of Andreas'. His Internet site is at:
Go to www.rootsweb.com <http://www.rootsweb.com> click on Family Trees
Type "Killion" without the quotes in box under "Jump to a specific database. In his database I am RIN 4416. Differences will be found in our data. Those interested in a specific person, or family, should review both databases.
Eddie. R KILLIAN RIN 4634 has made an extensive study of the children of George Killian RIN 58, a son of Andreas'. His site is at:
    http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/k/i/l/Ed-R-Killian/index.html
OR use google and George Killian 1740 - 1830
[address effective 5 Apr 2002] Ed's database has about 3,880 names, which he estimates at not more than half of the actual number. Ed's site should be studied by those interested in the descendants of George, son of Andreas. It is more complete and accurate, than this site, for such purpose.
PERSONAL NOTES RE GEORGE W. KILLIAN RIN 1, The compiler
BIRTH: weight was 7 pounds 3.25 ounces. Length was not recorded in my baby book, but at three months it was 24 inches and at 7 years old 48 inches and 60 pounds. At age 12 I was 102 pounds. Birth was at Prospect Heights Hospital.
NAME: The name George appears a few times in both my maternal and paternal lines. My mother had a brother, George that died as an infant. Weldon is for a brother, Weldon, of my fathers.
EDUCATION: I went through grade schools in the NYC school system. High School was at Brooklyn Technical High School taking the college prep courses.
COLLEGE: I went to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and received a degree in Electrical Engineering. That was so long ago I never heard the word "transistor" in college!
MILITARY: Served in the US Army for two years during WWII.
OCCUPATION: My first engineering job was working on automatic telephone switching circuits at Stromberg-Carlson in Rochester, NY. After a few years I started working in the Patent Department, of the same company, and continued patent prosecution work the rest of my working life. Later with the Singer-Friden Co., and then with General Signal Co.
MARRIAGE: was in the afternoon of 10 Jul 1954 at Durand Congregational Church in Sea Breeze (a suburb of Rochester, NY). Dr. James R. Branton officiating.
BIOGRAPHY: I have prepared a personal and family history which is over 150 pages in length in 10 point type two columns per page. It covers from birth to 1993. Copies have been given to my children. I continue to work on subsequent years.
RETIREMENT: I retired at age 58 in 1983 from employment in Stamford, CT. We returned to Fairport, NY (a suburb of Rochester, NY) and have lived there from that time to Oct 2008 when we moved 80 miles east to Fayetteville, NY to be near our son whose employment moved him from Rochester to Syracuse, NY.
    PICTURES associated with an individual.
In Nov 2002 I started to add some pictures in my database. These do NOT go forward to the web. They may in the future (if I can find a way to do it). If you can add a picture please send me a "JPEG"
    PLACE IDENTIFICATION: [Revised March 2009]
It is my object to make Place locations in this database conform to standards set by the largest genealogical library in the world (The Family History Centers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). More specifically a Place should have four components, normally listed from the smallest to the largest. In the US these would be 1) town, city, village etc. 2) County (or Parish in LA) 3) State and 4) USA [now United States]. State names should be spelled out. A comma is placed between each element. Thus I [now Feb 2009] live in Fayetteville, Onondaga, New York, United States. If it was not known that Fayetteville was in Onondaga Co the Place would be entered as; Fairport, , New York, United States. Thus the position of each word, with respect to the commas, defines the meaning of the word. Suitable modification is made for foreign locations. Note Well that churches, cemeteries, hospitals etc DO NOT comprise any part of the Place name. Those details are included in the Notes. It is not necessary to include "Co" with the county name. [starting in Feb 2009 I no longer include ?Co? with the county name. Also, for places that end in "United States" the spelling and existance of the place have been verified. There are cases where the city and county name exits, but not in the cambination shown. These must be resolved.
The same concept applies to foreign places, but have not been verified.
    RINs:
RIN stands for Record Information Number. These are numbers that are automatically and sequentially assigned as names are entered into the database. My RINs and the "ID #" on the RootsWeb Internet have the same digits. If you write, or send me E-mail, please mention the name and number of the person you discuss. The RIN of a person in my database should never change. However, it may be learned that the person did not exist, or that the name was entered twice (thereby getting two RINs for the same person). In these cases one of the names will be removed and associated RIN assigned to new people added to the database.
    SURNAME: KILLIAN
From "The Surnames of Scotland" by George F. Black 1999 by Birlinn Limited Edinburgh in Great Britain The Cromwell Press. KILLIAN, John Killian in Clerkaime, parish of Lesmahago, 1677, and Robert Killand in Deidwatters, parish of Lesmahago, 1678 (Lanark CR.). This name in Irish is O'Cilleain, descendant of Cillecestry Error here Apr 05.
    WHO IS IN THIS DATABASE:
The basic criteria for the people included in this database is that the children of any family included should have some common ancestry with my children. There are a few exceptions, the major exception is that I try to include the grandparents of my grandchildren. Without this limit the database would explode from tens of thousands to Hundreds of thousands
    .
D A T A about the number of ANDREAS' DESCENDANTS:
The number of descendants, including spouses, in this database for each of the 12 children of Andreas. The database of William Hinds RIN 5913 includes many of the same people, and others not in this database, and some of our data is not identical. He concentrates especially on the descendants of Leonard. See reference to his work at his name, and in these notes.

    OCTOBER 2008 NOTICE
For most of the last 60 years we have lived in the Rochester, NY area. Our son's employment moved him to Syracuse, NY area in Sept 2008. We feel we should live near him and have moved to Fayetteville, NY, (a suburb of Syracuse) about 80 miles east of Rochester. My NEW E-MAIL address is GS-Killian@twcnh.rr.com This will appear at any RootsWeb update.

Also there has been a breakthrough with information of more of the descendents of Andreas' children, specifically with respect to Brina (and that may not be the correct name).

    PLACE IDENTIFICATION:
It is my object to make Place locations in this database conform to standards set by the largest genealogical library in the world (The Family History Centers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). More specifically a Place should have four components, normally listed from the smallest to the largest. In the US these would be 1) town, city, village etc. 2) County (or Parish in LA) 3) State and 4) USA. State names should be spelled out. A comma is placed between each element. Thus I live in Fairport, Monroe Co, New York, USA. If it was not known that Fairport is in Monroe Co the Place would be entered as; Fairport, , New York, USA Thus the position of each word, with respect to the commas, defines the meaning of the word. Suitable modification is made for foreign locations. Note Well that churches, cemeteries, hospitals etc DO NOT comprise any part of the Place name. Those details are included in the Notes. It is not necessary to include "Co" with the county name.
