Abbrev: Mangum Author: Tom Mangum Publication: July 27, 2001 Note: Kay, Julia Isabelle and Mansel Manuel (I am not sure of the correct spelling of Mansel's name. The spelling on the tombstone is incorrect. I came from my Dad who was a terrible speller) had three children:
Clenton b. 1900 in Upshur County, Texas, died 1926 in Big Sandy, Texas. He died of tuberculosis of the bone which was the result of a severe hip injury. His wife was Luella (I do not know her last name. She later remarried and her husbands last name was Cronister. I do not know his first name.) They did not have children. He is buried in the same cemetery as his grandparents, Albid Nigh and J A A M C (Higgins). It is behind the Church of Christ in the community of Shady Grove about 10 miles northwest of Big Sandy, Texas
James Nye (Sr.) b. April 4, 1907 in Bette, Upshur County, Texas, died November 25, 1987 in Big Sandy, Texas. He married Eunice Caroline Smith, August 30, 1930. She was born on September 29, 1911 in Milam, Texas and died on March 20, 1991 at the hospital in Richardson, Texas. They are my parents.
Rosa Belle b. November 9, 1921 in Big Sandy, Texas died in the early nineties in Dallas. I am sorry that I do not have the date of death. She married Bill Newell who died in 1999 or 2000 in Denton, Texas. They had two children, both boys who live in or near Denton, Texas.
Julia Isabelle was the manager of the phone company in Big Sandy (United States Telephone Company, I think.) when she died. Physically, she was a large woman who still had a lot of dark hair when she died at the age of 67. That same dark coloring and hair characteristic was passed to my dad and me.
Interestingly, there was another family in town (the Davis's) that was descended from Albid's first family. They had the same dark wavey hair as my dad. That must have come from Albid.
I hope this helps. How do you fit into the family? Also, does anyone know who are the parents of Adam Bauman and exactly where they originated from in Pennsylvania?
Another item of note. We were always told that we were "black" Dutch. This summer, we were in Pennslyvania visiting my son. We met a family of "Bowman's." According to them the Baumans/Bowmans/Baughman were German, not Dutch. It is odd that the people we call Pennsylvania Dutch were actually German.
