------- "History of Lancaster County" by Franklin Ellis & Sam. Evans published in 1883, on page 861, there is a long article about Judge Jeremiah Brown. It says he married Mary Cole (a widow) of Nottingham. Their children were: Patience, JEREMIAH, JOSHUA and Isaac. It says "Joshua was born Mar 5, 1717. He married Hannah Gatchel in 1736 and 10 of their children grew to manhood. In 1758 he purchased 500 acres in Little Britain now Fulton Twp. (The book was written in 1883, and it states that Jeremiah's descendant Slater F. Brown of the 4th generation, now occupies that land). It states Joshua Brown was a minister for Society of Friends and traveled to Virginia, & North Carolina preaching to friends. He died October 1798 in the 82nd yr of his age. Of his children 4 settled & remained in that area. They were: Mary married Vincent King, Jeremiah, Isaiah and Joshua. Joshua Jr. the youngest son, died in the year 1823 on the mansion farm, leaving no children. And from what I gather, is the one many have used for DAR and other organizations to join as the Joshua Brown in Huntingdon Co that died in 1832.) Joshua's brother Jeremiah purchased his father's mills and a portion of the farm. Jeremiahs sons were: Levi, Jeremiah and Slater." (This accounts for the names Jeremiah Jr. and Slater Brown in the Will mentioned above).
-------1790 Census for Penn. under Lancaster County, Little Britain Twp. lists Jeremiah Brown, Joshua, Isaih, Joshua Brown Jr. etc. , these names listed in Lancaster County again coincide with the names of the Wills and Quaker records listed above.

--------Lancaster cnty, PA Wills, BROWN, JOSHUA, Wife. Zillah Brown. Children: Elisha, Patience, Jeremiah, Isaak, Mary, Samuel and Lydy.
Ex. Zillah Brown. Little Britton Twp. - The will of Joshua Brown Sr. of Little brittain in Lancaster Co, Pa. who was married to 1)Hannah Gatchell and married 2) Zillah Walker is dated Jun 10, 1799. It lists his wife as 'Zillah'. He lists his children: Joshua, Elisha, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Samuel, and daughters Patience Morrison, Lydy, Tillah, & Mary King who married Vincent King. He leaves his mansion & Plantation to son Joshua Brown Jr. (Joshua Brown Jr. mentions this) This list of names also coincides with the Rev. War Militia Lists for Lancaster County also.
------*2nd Wife of Joshua Brown: Zillah (Maule) Walker m: Aft. 1760 in Little Brittain, Lancaster Co (this information came from Sheppard Book titled "Sheppard-Marshall and Allied Families"/Lillian A. Sheppard, PUBLICATION: 1974. After Thomas Maule died, Zillah (Walker) Maule married (Sept. 10, 1767, at Radnor, Pa.) Joshua Brown of Little Britain Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa, by whom she had two children, Lydia and Israel. (Lydia married Merrick Embree and their descendants are numerous in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.) Joshua Brown, a renowned minister of the Religious Society of Friends, was an abolitionist and a temperance advocate; he made quite an impression on the young Maule boys. It is believed Zillah met Joshua when he was on one of his journeys as a Friends minister and was staying at the home of Daniel Walker. Thomas Maule's will was quite unusual, because in it he left his property, including the farm, to Zillah and his children in equal shares, rather than to the oldest child. After Zillah married Joshua Brown, she and the Maule boys moved to Little Britain Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. The Radnor farm was rented until all the children attained legal age. Rec. of Radnor MM & Phila. MM.
