    Obituary:
. Elizabeth Jane, eldest daughter of John and Eleanor (Shelley) Hiatt
was born near Jamestown, Guilford county, North Carolina, May 11th,
1833, and died in Portland, Indiana, Feb 4, 1907, aged seventy-three
years, eight months and twenty-three days. She was one of a family of
thirteen children; four brothers and four sister still survive.
. At the age of 23 she was married to Elisha Wright in Jay county,
December 25th, 1856. To this union were born eight children, Celia E.,
James M., Emma O., Thomas J., Francis J., Lulu E., John C., and baby Willie
who preceded her to the better land more than thirty-years ago. She

eighteen years in Portland and has been deprived of her life companion
the last 13 years. She professed faith in her Savior in early life and
when death came she did not waver, but calling neighbors and friends
about her bedside she bid them good-bye. To her children she said: 'Meet
me in Heaven; Jesus has come and I must go. Weep not, I would stay
longer but the Lord's will be done.' "She was kind and good to all about
her and none knew her but to love and respect her. She with her husband
and one daughter joined the Friends church in March, 1883, the other
children joining at other dates. She was faithful to the end of the race.
. Funeral services at the Friends church; Portland conducted by Rev. T. E.
Williams and M. B. Thornton. Burial at Pennville.
. The children return thanks all who so kindly assisted during mother's
    sickness and death.
