Note: On 23 March 1964, in response to my inquiry to the town clerk of Yarmouth, Maine, regarding the ancestry of my great grandfather, Joseph G. Mansfield, I received a response from Katherine P. Tinker. She cited no sources. In the hand-drawn chart that she attached to the letter, she identified Ebenezer and Ruth as the parents of Ebenezer Hill.
J. Gardner Bartlett's book, "John Hill of Dorchester, Mass., 1633, and Five Generations of His Descendants" States that Ebenezer lived in Dorchester until about 1682, when he moved to Bridgewater. On 19 Dec 1675, he faught in Capt. Johnson's Co. in the great battle at the Narraganset Swamp Fort in King Philip's War. He was called a husbandman by occupation.
On page 229 of "History of the Town of Dorchester, Massachusetts", by Ebenezer Clapp, Jr., published in 1859, Ebenezer Hill's name is included on the list of men from the town who were in Capt. Johnson's Company during King Philip's War in 1676. On page 236, it is mentioned that in 1679 he was "adverttised concerning idleness".
