  • ID: I131
  • Name: Andreas JAUCH
  • Sex: M 1 2 3
  • Birth: 7 DEC 1800 in Schwenningen, Württemberg, Germany 4 5
  • Death: AFT 1847 in United States? 6
  • CONF: 1813 Schwenningen, Württemberg, Germany
  • Note: Confirmation 7
  • Emigration: ABT 1847 United States
  • Note: Emigration 8
  • Occupation: Schuster
  • Note:

Schwenningen Family Registry Volume III-98 indicates that Andreas came to America in 1847; his appearance on the list of town-supported emigres leaving Schwenningen in 1847 would seem to confirm this, and that he came over with his children. However, I have found no sign of Andreas Jauch, nor any signs of his children, under multiple spellings, in subsequent census records (with the possible exception of son Andreas) until 1867 when son Ludwig emigrates to / marries in Buffalo, NY.

The story of the emigres indicates that some of them "lost heart" when the journey first started and did not continue. Given that his son, Ludwig, indicates on the 1910 and 1900 censuses that he emigrated in 1867, I am now of the belief that Andreas may have been one of the families who quit the journey. But where? Because his son Ludwig marries a girl from Hausen ob Verena (a distant cousin, actually), I sought to find evidence of Andreas and his children in Hausen ob Verena, but he is not there. There are no JAUCHs in the HoV church records between 1847 and 1880.

Andreas' brother, Thomas, emigrated with HIS family in 1856 (and settled in Staunton, VA).

In the 1870 US Census, there is an Andreas Youch in Wabash, Tippecanoe Co., Indiana, age 55 (hence b. 1815-- 15 years off), married to a Rosa, 50,b. Baden abt. 1820, with an 11 year old John, b. Wurttemberg (c. 1859). This is the same state where in the same year, a younger Andrew Jauch is found-- possible son of 1800-born Andreas Jauch and brother to Jillaine's 1839-born Ludwig. Is this 55-year-old Andrew possibly the emigrating father with a mis-reported age and a second wife and additional child (or unrelated child)? If so, it implies that they did not leave Germany until after the 1859 birth of a son. (This would go along with my theory above.)

There are no records in Schwenningen for this couple (Andreas, Rosa and child Johannes). Nor is there a Johannes born in 1859 with a relative (that I could determine) named Andreas. As mentioned above, there are no JAUCHs in Hausen ob Verena during this time either.
