    Charles, Reuben, Jacob, Harvey and Eliza say b VT Justus says England once. Thomas died before 1880, Leonard's record is illegible and he didn't know later.

    Eben would be in 1810 @ 10-20, 1820 @ 20-30. In 1930 he is 30-40 and died before 1840. The VT archive has no probate for him.

    March 1825 Ebenezer Fay was elected surveyor of roads for the 16th district of Highgate at the Town Meeting held at the Congregational meeting house. P136 Town Records. Have copy. age (45-55)

    1826 Grand Tax List for Highgate, not there before or after age (46-56)

    Aug 2, 1827 purchased 42 Acres, 26 rods for $225.67 from Ebenezer Hill starting near the south East corner of E Fay's shop at the corner of the road. Book 8 p 468-9. age (47-57)

    Oct 20, 1827 purchased 83 Acres from Luke Hichock for $150 beginning at west line of the highway running through Marvin's Gore on the north west corner of a lot formerly owned by Abel Partridge running westerly 200 rods to stake & stone then north easterly so as to be paralel with the first line far enough to contain 83 A then on the south line of land oened by John Hunter an easterly course to the highway then on the west line of the highway to the beginning. He put $50 down with a note of $100 payable with interest to be paid 20 Oct 1828 Book 8 p 139. Did he pay this note?. No, the owener went on to sell it again in Nov 1828.

    1 Sept 1829 Ebenezer M Fay purchased for $450 a piece of land lying in Highgate formerly called Marvin's Gore containing 100 acres & better & bounded as following to witt. Beginning at a Hemlock stake on the East side of the Highway running north & South through what was called Marvin's Gore North of Uri Hills dwelling to the province line to Franklin's West Line as laid by the proprietors of Franklin formerly when they ran the same. Thence North along said Franklin's line as far that turning west is parallel line with the first described East & West line to the said North & south Road then along the east side of the road to the place begun at, will contain 100 acres some fair measure.
    Same date he gave bond of $2000 on same piece of land to pay the Hohstadt's $517.50 on 1 Aug 1829 or forfit the land that the 4 Hohstadt's lived on. Book 38 p 323- 325.1 April 1830 for $ 800, in hand, he quit claim to same land in their favor. (What was the purpose of all that ? Did he make money? The Hohstad's were acting through an attorney as involved in an estate perhaps to clear a title when it was returned ?) Book 8 p 326,

    Ebenezer Fay Males: 1 @ 30-40, 1 under 5 (Thomas) and 2 @ 5- 10 (Charles & Reuben)=(3 boys over 15 in 1840). Females: 1under 5 (Eliza), 1 @ 15- 20 (mother's helper?), and 1 @ 20-30 (Betsy).

    1832 Dec 10 Ebenezer M Fay of Highgate Purchased in Franklin Township from Henry D Hungerford 140 Acres for $1000 the same farm Henry now lives on. It is the same land that that He bought of Rhoda & Joseph B Hungerford. Beginning at the NW corner of lot #2 in the 5th range running South in the center of a certain swail bounded by 100 & 40 rods on land owened be Jonathan Mahune, then east on lthe ine with Clarence Ward to the stone on the Highway as Highgate Road then continuing north on said road to the east & west road continuing northerly on the east line of Isaac Warner's land to the North Eastern corner then west 22 rods then on lot #1 north bounded on the Cedar swamp 80 rods then west on said swamp 120 rods to take all the hardwood lumber land on said lot 1 range 5th to an inlet running from the swamp, then South to the first corner to contain @ 140 Acres +/- Book 4 p 23.

    1833, June 12 He sold, for $450 an irregular lot in Marvins gore, Highgate where his shop once stood on the west line highway running from Jim Hill's to Pages . Then East & North etc to the North East corner of Wm Patton then South on his East line to a birch tree by the road then east on the North side of the road to the beginning consisting of 42 acres 126 rods of land, to a Polly Downey. (What kind of a shop?) Made a profit of $274+ Book 9 p 231-2.

    1833 JULY 24 Purchased in Franklin, Franklin, VT the Taylor lot in 5th rang lot 5 for $280 from Jonathan H Morris of Charlston, Sullivan, NH. Book 4 p 149. Then same day made a Mortgage Deed back to Morris of $280 for promisary note for $71.60 payable 1 Oct 1835 with interest & also to Jonathan Morris from all losses on a note dated Feb 10,1832 signed by Philo Marsh for $200 with interest payable 1 Oct 1833.. then the deed would be void. Book 4 p 157. There is a note 2 Oct 1835 affirming the mortgage is paid.

    1835 Dec 28 sold to Benjamin Eager of Swanton, Franklin, VT for $1000 that he bought of H D Hungerford.
    The same day Benjamin deeded it back to Ebenezer for $200 as promisary note for $100 payable 1 April 1837 & again 1 April 1838 with interest. If payments arent made by Benjamin land reverts to Ebenezer. Book 4 p 307 & 8.

    1836 May 16 sold Taylor lot to Joseph B Culler for $300 Book 4 p 334. The last information on where he was.

    1840, Joseph W Fay son of E & Betsy Fay died 3 Jan 1840 is buried Church Street Cemetery, Strafford, Orange, VT. Does he belong? prob not.

    Death period was established by the birthdate of Leonard, the last child, and the 1840 census of Middletown Springs, Rutland, VT where Betsey is a widow with 2 girls and 7 boys.
    No Fay record found in Ira, Middletown or Tinmouth in Rutland, VT
