Amos may have had a 2nd marriage. The record shows an Amos Himes marrying Lucy A. Snively on 3 Apr 1862. Since Amos Himes is a relatively uncommon name (there is only one listed in IN in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 census indexes), this is probably our Amos. His death date and location are unknown. According to family stories, he died before his youngest daughter married (at age 16 in 1869). Since two daughters and one son married in Pike Co, IL between 1867-1869, he may have moved with his children to IL before he died. A family story also claimed that he (and his wife) died while crossing a railroad track in a horse and buggy, but this story most likely had its origin from the fate of his daughter Susan and her husband Jason Jones. It is possible that Amos died, and his under-age daughters (Margaret and Clara) went to IL to live with their brother or some other family member, and then married there. A search has failed to find any record of land ownership, or any will or probate records for an Amos Himes in Pike Co., IL. Marriage 1 Clara Watts b: ABT. 1811 in NY
