MRS. P. VAN ABEL
        PASSES AWAY

After Illness Seven Months With
        Cancer Stomach

Resided in Oconto About Forty-Five
        Years

Mrs. Peter Van Abel, a resident of Oconto for about 45 years passed away at her home, 1106 Superior Ave., at 6:15 last evening of cancer of the stomach after an illness of seven months.

Deceased was born in Holland August 21, 1840, where she was married to Peter Van Abel and about 45 years ago they moved to Oconto, living here continuously since.

She [is] survived by her husband, four sons, Theodore, Henry, William and Martin, two daughters, Miss Minnie and Mrs. H. J. Ahlborg and one sister, Mrs. Cornelius Van Ussen all of Oconto.

The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning from St. Joseph's church, rev. J. A. Selbach officiating. Interment will be held in Catholic cemetery.

Obit of husband Peter (Oconto County Reporter Nov. 19, 1914, page 1) says they were married in Holland that they arrived in Oconto 58 years ago, which would be 1914-58=1856 (which agrees well with arriving in 1855 in 1900 census). But if they were married in Holland in 1862 (1864 actually), then they could not have emigrated in 1855-6. And the Swierenga passenger lists book has a Peter Van Abel, age 27, emigrating in 1864 from Haps, accompanied by one woman.

Haps turns out to be Peter's birthplace.

But Nicolasina's obit (above) say she lived in Oconto for 45 years. 1910-45=1865 which makes much more sense, and also puts them in the ballpark for sister Wilhelmina's arrival in 1864.
