TAKEN BY DEATH
Funeral services for Mrs. Cary(sic) Gardner, 78, who died Sunday, were incomplete today pending word from relatives
Mrs. Gardner, widow of the late James B. Gardner, who died in 1915, had been a resident many years. She was born in Eden, Vermont, March 20, 1861.
Surviving are Mrs. Cora Kramer, Clark Summitt, Pa.; Ernest Gardner, Woodenville, Wash.; Bert Gardner, Brainerd; Leon Gardner, Edward Norfolk, Va.; Art Gardner, Philadelphia, and Mrs. Gladys Maghan, Brainerd; and one brother, Edward Sleeper, of Stowe, Vt. Twenty-two grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive.

22 grandchildren!! As of Feb 2000, I know of 20 alive in 1939: Cora 2, Ernest 5, Bert 8?, Leon 2, Edward 0, Arthur 0, Gladys 3. Bert 1960 obit listed 8 surviving children, but I don't know if any others died between 1939 and 1960.
1900 Census for Crow Wing County, E.D. 60, sheet 2, shows Carrie gave birth to 9 children, 6 of whom were alive in 1900 (Gladys had not yet been born) - one died in Iowa, another died as an infant in Morrison County, Minnesota, and the third was Mary (in 1895 census but not 1900).
Wolcott, Vermont marriage record p. 707 says Carrie born in Waterbury, but 1860 Census for Eden, Lamoille Co, Vermont p. 734 shows parents as husband-wife without children, yet, so I'm going with Eden as Carrie's birthplace.
