[begin quote Todd County Argus, Aug 11, 1887, P4 Col 4]
Died.
Of cancer of the stomach at his home half a mile south of town, Friday morning, August 5th, 1887, Thomas Bock, aged 68 years, 7 months and 19 days.
Deceased was born in Wittenburg, Germany, December 16, 1818, where he married and lived until 1848 when he emigrated to Canada and two years later sent for his family. In 1857 he settled in Michigan and removed from there to Long Prairie in May, 1871, where he resided until his death. He was a carpenter by trade and followed the business as long as he was able to stand the work. He was a quiet and personable citizen and respected by all who knew him. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church Sunday morning, of which organization he was a member, a large procession following the remaining(sic) to their last resting place. He leaves two sons and a wife to mourn his death.

Interestingly enough, the New York 1820-1850 Passenger and Immigration database at Ancestry.Com has this info:

He was traveling alone. The year and age are a match for "my" Thomas Bock.
Marriage 1
Sophia Bernauer b: 16 May 1823 in Todtnau, Baden, Germany
- Married:
Abt 1849
in Germany?
- Note: All three of Sophia's children (1844, 1845, 1848) were illegitimate. I'm not yet sure if Thomas married Sophia in Germany or they met in Canada. Obits imply marriage in Germany (but they also imply that the children are Thomas').
