NARA records (soldier certificate #111182) - Curtis' 1912 declaration for pension gave birthdate as 26 Feb 1842 in Waterbury, Vermont. He enrolled at Montpelier, Vermont on 25 Feb 1862 for three years but was honorably discharged on 10 Nov 1862 in New York City. Another document says he was captured at Savage Station, Va June 30, 1862, confined at Richmond. Released August 3rd, admitted to hospital with rheumatism and loss of finger due to a missile ball hitting his right hand during the battle of Savage Station, and was given a medical discharge. On 01 Mar 1865, he re-enlisted and served in Company E, 22 Regiment of New York until mustered out 01 Aug 1865 at Winchester, Virginia.
