1850 Sankt Kryzyz Catholic Church in Opole baptismal record #129 for "Gregor Joseph" - born Mar 10 in Dziekanstwo to Anton Wiessalla and Rosalie Lissa and baptized Mar 11. LDS film #0948830. Opole was part of Prussia (German Poland) back then and was called Oppeln.

On the Application for Naturalization in Todd county dated 12 Sep 1872 for Albert Lamusga (his future ather-in-law), Joseph was a witness and signed his name as Joseph Wieszalla.

It seems that the parents and siblings of Joseph used the Anglicized "Wieshalla" spelling, but he chose to reverse the "ie", and soon started using Weishalla.

On 19 Nov 1909, Joseph and Pauline transferred title to their house and land on the west side of Long Prairie to Adelbert W. Breumer for $10,000. Quite a bit back in those days. Their last name was spelled Wirssalla in the record.

Grave marker has born March 10, 1850. He would have been 73 in 1923 (as per obit). But 1900 census and age of 40 (assumed rounded up) at Jan 28, 1889 (sic) birth of John both indicate 1849. But Polish record has the same date as on the grave marker, so that's correct.

Death of Joseph Weishalla

    Joseph Weishalla, a former well known resident of Long Prairie, died at his home in Minneapolis on Monday of last week, his death being due to heart failure and coming suddenly while he was engaged in mowing the lawn in front of his home. The remains were brought to Browerville Thursday afternoon and funeral services were held from St. Joseph's Catholic church Friday morning, Rev. Father Guzdek officiating. Interment followed in the Long Prairie Catholic cemetery, where his parents and other members of his family are interred. Joseph Weishalla was born in Poland and came to America more than 50 years ago. He resided in Long Prairie for many years, working as a brick mason, and in that capacity assisted in the erection of many of the present business blocks of the village. He removed from this city to Minneapolis several years ago and had since made that city his home. Mr. Weishalla was in Long Prairie and Browerville about two weeks ago for a visit with relatives and friends, and while it was known that his health was failing, all were shocked and surprised to learn of his sudden death. Mr. Weishalla was 73 years of age and is survived by his wife and the following children: Miss Agnes of Spokane, Wash.; Miss Elizabeth of California; Miss Sophia of Minneapolis; Mrs. Florence Rerusha (sic) and Mrs. Mary Bell of Pine River; Robert of Moran township, and John, who resides somewhere in the west, but whose address is unknown. Mrs. Mary Poplinski and Mrs. Kubitza of Browerville are two sisters who survive.
