Old Settler Dies
Mrs. Rose Wieshalla died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Poplinski at Browerville Saturday morning. She was eight-six years, six months, and two days old. The funeral will be held from the Catholic church of this village today, and the interment will take place here. Her husband who died some years ago is buried here and she sill be laid to rest beside him. Death was due to old age and the general breakdown consequent. She has made her home here with her son, Joseph, for some time past and about the middle of the week was deemed well enough to make the trip to Browerville to visit her daughter. She went up on the train but was taken ill later and passed away as stated. She was born in Poland and came to the United States in an early day. She and her husband were among the earliest settlers of this county and came to Long Prairie when the village was being laid out before (sic) the civil war. They had resided here ever since. She is survived by her sons Joseph of this village and Thomas of Iona and by her daughters, Mrs. Fred Poplinski of Browerville, Mrs. Wm. Bush of Brainerd, Mrs. Lizzie Lonacek of Eveleth and Mrs. Kate Olson of Niemaier.
[end quote]
"Mrs. Kate Olson of Niemaier" is Mrs. Agatha Olson of Nymore (which is now part of Bemidji). Daughter Clara (wife of Charles Backer) is not mentioned.
In "Todd County Histories", p. 235, a story entitled "STAPLES" about Robert Wieshalla, son of Joseph Wieshalla, gives 1869 as the year of immigration, which makes it _after_ the Civil War. In 1900 census, emigration is also given as a scribbled-over 1869.
