    Clare was an "illegitimate" child, and she never knew who her father was. Her mother, Flo, never divulged her secret, even to her own daughter.

    However, in 1999, in response to a request to St. Mary of Mount Carmel's church in Long Prairie for the the baptismal record for Clare, the secretary sent a photocopy of the record as it exists in the original book. She was born and baptized in 1897, not 1896, and declared "filia illegitima". For the father information, it had, in latin, "patria putativo Thoma Bock".
