  • ID: I117
  • Name: Abigail Morse "Abba" Robbins
  • Sex: F
  • Birth: 20 Jan 1819 in Peacham, Vermont
  • Death: 25 Oct 1902 in Crow Wing, Minnesota
  • Burial: 29 Oct 1902 Crow Wing, Minnesota
  • Immigration: Descendant of 3 Mayflower Passengers
  • Change Date: 02 Apr 2009
  • Note:
Birth info from Morse Society and from "George Robbins in Chelmsford..." manuscript.

1850 Census for Craftsbury, Orleans County, Vermont, shows Abigail, age 29, and mother, Abigail Robbins, age 67.

1860 Census for Craftsbury, Orleans County, Vermont, shows Abba, age 39, Mary, age 3.

1880 Census for Craftsbury, Orleans County, Vermont, shows Abby, age 59, Mary, age 23 and Henry, age 10.

1900 Census for Crow Wing County, Minnesota, E.D. 60, sheet 2, shows Abba M., age 79. Birthdate Jan 1820. Father born in Vermont, mother born in Massachusetts. She gave birth to 6 children, 4 of whom were still living at the time (Octavia, Abba, James, and Kate). (NOTE: the states for her parents are the opposite of the true states).

Birthyear also 1820 on grave marker. But all census ages (_9) imply birthyear of 1821. And Morse Society and Robbins Genealogical Society records says birthyear 1819 (which makes sense since the next child was born in May 1820).

No Crow Wing County death record. No obituary, either. Apparently died on the homestead in Crow Wing township and quietly buried in the local Oak Land Cemetery.

At the Oak Land grave site, there is a tall, obelisk-type grave marker inscribed on the front side with "Abba M wife of James K. Gardner Born Jan 20 1820 Died Oct 25 1902". James' info is on the right side.

Crow Wing County death record of daughter Octavia Hutchins (27 May 1902) gives birthplace of mother (Abba) as a scribbled name that looks like Pukiem and that I thought could be Putnie (i.e. Putney) but it turns out to be Peacham, Vermont. Later I found more legible Crow Wing Township records and it was clearly Peacham, there.
