Vincennes Sun-Commercial (IN) - September 11, 2004. -TUSCOLA, Ill. - Thomas E. Carie, 79, Tuscola, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at his residence with his wife by his side. Mr. Carie was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Vincennes, the son of Thomas Joseph and Rose (Bouvy) Carie. He enlisted into the U.S. Army Nov. 27, 1942, and served until Jan. 24, 1944. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal. He was a truck driver for most of his working career. He was a member of the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church of Tuscola, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10009 of Tuscola and the Tuscola Moose Lodge. He was an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed fishing, camping and golfing. He married Almeda Williams in Vincennes Nov. 16, 1946, and she died Aug. 14, 1984. He married Janet Simendinger-Lynch in Arcola Aug. 22, 1985, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Mark Carie of Tuscola and Thomas E. Carie Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters of Tuscola, Juli Baird and Jana Rodmaker; five stepsons, David Lynch of Tuscola, Terry Lynch of Piper City, Brian Lynch of Atwood, Tracey Lynch of Urbana and Kevin Lynch of Yorktown, Ind.; two sisters, Blanche Durham of Vincennes and Helen Doll of Warren, Ohio; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Emmett Carie and Norb Carie; three sisters, Ann Ruppel, Eloise Blubaum and Pauline Nowaski; and one granddaughter, Rachel L. Rodmaker. The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Waddington Funeral Home, 400 S. Main St., by the Rev. Allen Kemme. Burial was in Tuscola Township Cemetery, with military honors by Tuscola VFW Post 10009.
