    Born in Reading, Massachusetts, Samuel Walton there married and then settled in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts where his first two children were born.
    Receiving a land grant as legal heir of his Great Grandfather John Leach, the family moved to Narragansett, later incorporated as Amherst, New Hampshire. Here they cleared land and build a homestead in land that was described as a "howling wilderness where no man dwelt."
