Addition: Eleanor la Zouche (died 1434), wife of Sir John Lovel, Lord Lovel and Holand From: Douglas Richardson Date: 2/8/2012 9:41 PM To: gen-medieval@rootsweb.com Text: Complete Peerage, 8 (1932): 221 (sub Lovel) has a rather brief account of Sir John Lovel, Lord Lovel and Holand, who died in 1414. Regarding his marriage, the following information is provided:
"He is said to have married Eleanor, daughter of William Zouche [Lord Zouche of Haringworth]." END OF QUOTE.
In a footnote f on the same page, it is stated that "there is no authority for her parentage."
As such, Complete Peerage isn't even sure of her given name.
Even so, "Alienor Lovell" was definitely a legatee in the 1396 will of her father, William la Zouche, 3rd Lord Zouche of Harringworth, as indicated in an abstract of Lord Zouche's will published in Gibbons, Early Lincoln Wills 1280?1547 (1888): 93.

Eleanor, wife of Sir John Lovel, is elsewhere identified as a daughter of William, Lord Zouche of Harringworth, in the following secondary sources:
1. Brydges, Collins? Peerage of England 7 (1812): 319?395 (sub Perceval, Lord Lovel and Holland) (wife Alianora identified as ?daughter of William, Lord Zouch, of Harringworth).
2. Burke, Dormant, Abeyant, Forfeited & Extinct Peerages (1883): 332? 334 (sub Lovel) (wife Alianore identified as ?dau. of William, Lord Zouche, of Haryngworth?).
Following the death of her husband, Eleanor, widow of Sir John Lovel, had livery of her dower granted to her 6 Nov. 1414. See Annual Report of the Deputy Keeper, 37 (1876): 477, which may be viewed at the following weblink:

As for the death date of Eleanor (la Zouche) Lovel, there is an abstract of an inquisition post mortem for her in print which indicates that she died 15 March 1434 ("Monday next after the Feast of St. Gregory the Pope 'last past' [1434]."). See Annual Report of the Deputy Keeper, 37 (1876): 477?478, which may be viewed at the following weblink:

In summary, I find there is sufficient evidence to prove that Eleanor, wife of Sir John Lovel, Lord Lovel and Holand, was the daughter of William la Zouche, Knt., 3rd Lord Zouche of Harringworth (died 1396); that Eleanor survived her husband's death in 1414; and that Eleanor died 15 March 1434.
Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah
