SID HAD HIS FIRST AUTOMOBILE AT THE AGE OF 14.HIS LEGS WERE TOO SHORT TO REACH THE PEDALS OF THE CAR. SO HE HAD WOODEN BLOCK BOLTED TO THE PEDALS OF HIS MODEL "T" CAR SO HE COULD DRIVE IT.

HE GRADUATED FROM EATONTON HIGH SCHOOL WHERE HE WAS A TRACK STAR, BASKETBALL AND BASEBALL PLAYER. THE GEM WAS SO SMALL THAT TWO OF THE WALLS WERE THE OUT OF BOUND LINES OF THE BASKETBALL COURT. TO PASS THE BALL YOU COULD bounce THE OFF THEE WALLS TO ANOTHER PLAYER.

AT ONE TIME HE WAS SENT TO THE GEORGIA MILITARY SCHOOL AT MILLEDGEVILLE, GEORGIA BECAUSE HE WAS NOT LIVING UP TO WHAT HE COULD DO.

HE ATTENDED GEORGIA TECH FOR LITTLE OVER A YEAR BEFORE HIS DADDY PEACHES TREES FAILED AND HE HAD TO QUIT SCHOOL AND GO TO WORK.
