  • Note:
    William moved to Elk River after 1810 and lived next to his brotherBenjamin and across the r iver from his wife's sister Nancy. This wasopposit the mouth of Mill Run where her Gregory p arents lived.
    William with his brothers Benjamin and Peter served in the war of 1812.They
    enlisted at Beverly, Randolph, West Virginia and served in CaptainWamsley's Regiment at Norf ork. They served a period of three months andwere discharged 15 December 1814.
    William was a hunter of deer and bear. His family ate the meat and hetraded the hides. He st arted the first school in Webster County, WestVirginia along with his brother Benjamin and J ames Dodrill and build alog school house on Benjamin Hamrick's land. Benoni Griffin was th efirst teacher.
    He died in 1850 while away from home and is buried on the Robinson Farm,Summersville, Nichol as, West Virginia in an unmarked grave.
