Note: Porterville was originally known as Oak Grove. Ms. Christine Webb Mosley disputes this - saying there is "no connection between Ok Grove and Porterville - historically or otherwise." Davd C. McKelvaine provides this answer: "Oak Grove was about 7 miles due west of Porterville. Back in the late 1800's and early 1900's it was a thriving community, with a post office, school, Library and doctors office. Now there is only one house and an old store building that was closed back in the 1960's. It has since fallen down. Most all of our ancestors came from there or the surrounding area. Dr. Walter Holladay who married Cornelia Mckelvaines sister Mary Robert "Bobbie" Mckelvaine had an office There. By the way my father Walter A. Mckelvaine was named after Dr. Holladay. "
