    I found him. Along with his parents, he emigrated to Illinois where we find him (in Marshall) in 1860, married to Elizabeth who was born in Ohio (per 1870 census) or Illinois (per 1860 census).

    In 1870, he and his parents, along with his wife and four children are living in Evansville, Indiana. He's a broommaker.

    In 1880, he and his wife, with seven children, are in San Francisco. He goes by "Cris". Only his youngest child (age 2) was born California; the next, age 5, was born in Indiana, indicating that they moved to California between 1875 and 1878.

    In the 1890 SF city directories, he is identified as a broom maker with a business (J.B. Glunz) in SF, but residing in Oakland.

    1900 census: He's living at 932 Magnolia Street in Oakland, CA with his wife, widowed daughter, Annie Luhr[s] and two single children, Elizabeth A. (stenographer) and Charles A. Glunz (the latter of whom is a secretary at the YMCA).

    1910 census: 972 Magnolia Street

    living with is widowed daughter and HER two sons, Alvan [later John A.] and Wendell [later George W.] LUHR.

    It appears he died between 1910 and 1920.
