      SLOUGH, Virginia Lucille Jewell, 86, of Salem, departed this life Sunday, December 29, 2002 at Our Lady Of The Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Hickory, North Carolina on April 20, 1916 and completed her education in North Carolina, graduating from Hamlet High School in 1933. She especially loved music, dancing, playing the piano, and bridge. She also did volunteer work at Salem Health & Rehab from 1984 until 1987. She loved dogs and always
      missed her beloved Brutus and Morrison. She was predeceased by her husband, William Henry Slough. She was the fourth child of State Senator John G. Jewell and Mrs. Hattie B. Jewell, and was also predeceased by two brothers and one sister. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Slough of Salem. A private graveside service was held on January 2, 2003 at Sherwood Memorial Park with Pastor Frank Feather officiating and Pastor Everett Kire assisting. Arrangements were handled by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel and many thanks for their outstanding service during this time of grief.
