Smith. "William Hall was active in local affairs. In 1842 when Carroll County was formed from Garyson County, he was appointed one of the eight justices who organized and initially administered the new county. He was also commander of the county militia. In 1820, he and his brother Asa Hall, Jr. came to this are (Where?) from Roanoke Valley of Virginia, which lay some 60 or 70 miles to the Northeast. William settled on the headwaters of Little Snake Creek. Stones from the chimney of his original home can still be found among the brambles which now cover the sight of this once prosperous plantation.... William Hall died in 1860 and was buried in the Vinson Cemetery near his home."
