Vergia Almira Brown attended eight years of the White School off EE route southwest of Richmond, Missouri. She went another year to study other subjects because she did not get to attend high school. She was an avid reader of the daily news and learned much on her own. She and her husband Guy Thomas Crowley had high ambitions for their children and sent them all to college.
Vergia liked to make friends and was a faithful church attender at the First Baptist Church in Richmond, Missouri. Vergia and Guy took into their home various family members and helped them so some could attend high school and others could stay with them while the worked in Richmond.

Vergia and Guy always set a good example for their children by attending church, helping others, and being good citizens in the community. They were both active in their churches and encouraged their children to be good workers and study hard in school.
