  • ID: I93816
  • Name: Christian BAUGHMAN Sr. 1
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: BEF 1780 in Germany 1
  • Death: in Bald Eagle Valley, PA 1
  • Note:
    Note: From B. Jerry Baughman:
    1) Christian was warranted 436 acres, 148 perches and allowances of land in Huntingdon County at survey dated Feb. 7, 1812. (U.S. GenWeb Archives) Other sources say that he secured the claim in 1797 - land located about 2 miles from Bald Eagle Furnace. The area became part of Centre County in 1800 and later became Snyder Twp in Blair County. Deed records were found at the Huntingdon Courthouse in Vol. X-1-136 & Z-1-476 that show land ownerships and transfers to
children John, Andrew, Elizabeth and Henry E. Baughman. A portion of John's property was donated to the Baughman Cemetery which is still in use today.

    2) Christian and wife Catherine were reported to have had 6 sons and 1 daughter. (J.H. Beers & Co. 1898 "A Commemorative Biographical Record of Central Pennsylvania")

    3) A Christopher Baughman immigrated to Huntingdon County in 1802. (source: Huntingdon County, Pa. Naturalization Records 1798-1802, Southwest Pa. genealogical Services, Laughlintown, Pa. 15655, vol. 1:4, (March 1982) pp. 12-14. He may be a Brother to Christian or another relative.

    4) The book by J. Africa, "History of Huntingdon County at Warrior's Mark" also notes a Christian Baughman and George Baughman were single Freemen in 1798. This George may have been a Brother to Christian. There was a George born in 1804 at or near Altoona, Pa. and could have been the elder George's son. This George later
married Mary McCahan and moved to East Providence Twp., Bedford County in 1848 and died there in 1884. Their children were: Josiah b. 1830 (died in the Civil War); Jeremiah b. 1831-1915 m.
