    Will of Gilbert Crum written in 1762

    In the Name of God Amen this twelfth Day of March one thousand seven hundred and
    sixty two, I, Gilbert Crum, of Frederick county and Providence of Maryland,
    farmer, being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory and calling to mind
    the mortality of my Body, do make this my Last Will and Testament. And first I
    give and bequest and bequeath my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God, my
    heavenly Father hoping for forgiveness of all my sins through the Merits and
    Intersession of Christ my Savior, and my body I leave to be buried in a
    Christian like manner at the Discretion of my Executors hereinafter named
    nothing doubting but at the general Resurrection I shall receive it again
    through the mighty power of God. And as for such worldly estate wherewith it has
    pleased God to bless me in this life with I give and bequeath unto my Sons
    William Crum and John Crum their Heirs and assigns the Tract of Land whereon I
    now live called Rattlesnake Spring being part of his Lordships Manor of Minocoey
    Allowing my Wife, Martha the third part thereof during her Life. Item I give
    and bequeath unto my children namely, Martha, John, Elizabeth, Peter, Mary, and
    Abraham, the Sum of five pounds Currrency each to be paid them and each of them
    as they arrive at age or marry and if either of the afsd children should die
    before they respectively arrive at age or marry that then his, her or their part
    or parts be equally divided between all my children then surviving. Item I give
    and bequeath unto my Wife Martha a third part of my personal Estate after the
    foresaid legacies and my debts and my burial charges are deducted out of said
    estate besides her thirds in the afsd Lands. Item I give and bequeath all the
    Remainder of my personal Estate and real estate to be equally divided between
    all my children, namely Cornelius Crum, Hannah Vought, Gilbert Crum, Martha
    Crum, Elizabeth Crum, Peter Crum, Mary Crum and Abraham Crum to be paid them as
    they arrive at age or marry (excepting Cornelius Crum, Hannah Vought, Gilbert
    Crum and Martha Crum) which are to be paid to them respectively at the
    expiration of five years after my decease, and if any of my afsd children should
    dye before they arrive at age or marry, that them, his,her or their part or
    parts to be equally divided between all the Survivors. And Lastly I constitute
    and ordain my well beloved wife Martha Crum and my Son William Crum, my
    Executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making null and
    void all other Wills before this Time made. Rattifying and confirming this and
    no other to be my Last Will and Testamemt. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto
    set my Hand and affixed my Seal the Day and Year above written.

    This 18th Day of August 1762 Joseph Wood and Peter Hedge two of the Subscribing
    Witnesses to the within Will being duly and solomnly sworn on the holy Evangels
    of Almighty God dispose and say that they saw Testator Gilbert Crum sign the
    within Will and heard him publish and declare the same to be his Last Will and
    Testament, that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their
    apprehensions of sound deposing mind and memory and that they subscribed their
    respective Names as Witnesses to the said Will in the presence of the said
    Testator and at his Request and that they saw the other subscribing Witness John
    Beard sign his name as a Witness of the said Testator and at his Request.

    Gilbert Crom was a "freeholder" in Bridgewater Township, in Somerset County, New Jersey in 1753,
    In Fredrick County, Maryland in 1756, "Francis Hatfield, attorney for Christopher Loundes and Company, fully impowered hath bargained and sold the within mentioned leases of the tract or tenement of land for the term within mentioned to Gilbert Crump... In consideration of 150 pounds current money of Maryland in hand paid by the said Gilbert Crump ... the 18th day of August 1756.
