    Martin Batterton, hewed the lumber for the first church at Evergreen. He made a log barn that still stands, and until a very few years ago was constructed without the use of a nail, the clapboard roof and sides being "pegged on" according to the custom of those early days. You also know the two chairs that we have which he made, and which would do credit to any pupil of manual training of today, and I imagine they could not equal them.
