Jones - Welsh surname meaning the "son of John". The Jones ancestry is traced to Bleddyn-ap-Cynfyn, King of Pawys in Wales, in 1046. His coat of arms was a rampant scarlet lion on a gold shield. That symbol is still on the Jones coat-of-arms, accompanied by the motto "Look to the past". The first of this family in our country is believed to be Rev John Jones who settled in Connecticut in 1635.
