A month after Solomon Welch passed away, his wife, Susanna, and her family all moved to McLean County, Illinois, coming with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Samuel Troope Richardson. They moved by covered wagon with oxen, arriving March 30, 1835. They settled in what was then Randolph Grove, but which is now know as Diamond Grove, Downs Township. Here they again suffered all the hardships of pioneer life.
The eldest son, Peter Jacoby Welch, entered government land, where the family settled. It is now known as the Henry Welch farm, Peter having sold this farm to his brother Henry.
After the family all grew up and left home to start homes of their own, the Mother, Susanna Welch, made her home with her son, Henry Welch.
On August 14, 1862, Susanna Jacoby Welch departed from this life and is buried in the Diamond Grove cemetery, with other member of her family...

After the death of her husband Mrs. Welch with her large family of children came to Illinois and located in Downs Township, McLean County.
The family included eleven children: eight sons and three daughters, only three of whom are now living - Jeremiah, Albert, and Eliza J.
The members of the family who are deceased were: Peter, John, Mary, William, Henry, Alfred, Sarah, and George....
The widow of Solomon Welch with her large family were among the early settlers of the county, coming here when all was new and in a primitive state, and we can readily see that they had to endure all of the hardships of a pioneer life.
Notwithstanding this fact they entered land and set to work with the untiring zeal which has made them famous for being among the most influential and wealthy citizens of the county.
Grandmother Welch was a woman possessing many noble qualities and here descendents partake largely of her goodness of heart and mind.
Her children have all been very successful in life and have been citizens whom their children and grandchildren will look back upon with love, reverence and pride long after they sleep in the tomb...
In religious belief Grandmother Welch was a Presbyterian but afterwards united with the United Brethren Church. Her descendents are United Brethren and Methodists.
In political belief in early times they were "Whigs" but on the organization of the Republican party they adopted the principles set forth in its platform and have adhered closed to it ever since and now there in not a voter among the descendants of Solomon and Susan Welch but what vote the Republican ticket so far as known...
