She was a 2nd great-grandmother of Sen. Zell Miller, and many other notable leaders in many fields.

The 1850 Census spells her name Sely, a casual form of Celia.

Celia's surname, Self, is thought to have originated from Norse Vikings, who called themselves Sejouf, (pronounced Say-Yuf,) meaning Seawolf. Some of these Vikings remained in England after invading her shores, where the name gradually modified to Selfe and Self. There were many members of the Self family in colonial NC, and a number of Celia's relatives seem to have migrated into GA when she and her husband Thompson did.
