OBITUARY:

Mr. A.J., better known as ?Jay? Collins, age 65, native and lifelong resident of Union County, Georgia, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2002, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Collins was born in Union County, on Saturday, October 9, 1937, a son of the late F.W. Collins and Pauline Thomas Collins. He was a member and deacon of Old Liberty Baptist Church. Mr. Collins had farmed and was also a former employee of the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Surviving are his loving wife, Joan Ownbey Collins, of Blairsville; his mother, Pauline Thomas Collins, also of Blairsville; sons and daughters-in-law: Timothy Jay and Nancy Collins, of Lula GA; Steven Todd and Rhonda Collins, of Blairsville; and Tracy Allan and Tammy Collins, also of Blairsville, GA; sister, Anita Dyer, of Blairsville; two brothers: F.C. Collins, and Randall Collins, both of Blairsville; Grandchildren: Cameron Collins, Caylee Collins, Luke Collins, Caroline Collins, Jordan Collins, Rachel Collins, and Thomas Collins; many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 27, 2002, at 2:00 pm, from Old Liberty Baptist Church, with Rev. Harley Hunter and Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Special music was presented by Old Liberty Baptist Church Choir. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: A.J. Wimpey, Brownlow Anderson, W.H. Hood, Jerry Walls, Dick Willett, and Eugene Collins. Interment was in Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family has suggested that memorials might be made to Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
