  • Name: Albrecht THOMAS
  • Surname: Thomas
  • Given Name: Albrecht
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: ABT 1658 in Neuenburg, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany
  • Death: 7 Oct 1731 in Neuenburg, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany
  • _UID: 537B2F907B41D511BD9EBDC3D7961731BFB5
  • Note:
It seems unlikely that Albrecht and his first wife had more children before they show up in Neuenburg church records since he was only 27 when Johannes was born BUT I guess it is possible that he may have had one other child who flew under the radar -- born previous to Johannes and not getting married or having children baptised at that church . However IF we could find out where he came from -- we might get a handle on the Catherine Russell Thomas. Maybe a brother to Albrecht since it just does not seem to fit well as a brother to Johannes (other than Carolus). Albrccht may not have moved to the Neuenburg area until right before Johannes was born -- since there is no marriage record for him in the church records. However-- the records may be in the Catholic church records since his wife was Catholic. The records start in 1663 but this family does not show up until 1685 when Johannes was born. We don't know how old Barbara was nor when she and Albrecht married but presumabl! y not long before 1685 based on his age.. They did not give her age at her death in 1718. Was she listed elsewhere since she was Catholic? All speculation -- just thinking outloud. Take care. Marilyn
am going through THOMA genforum to see if any help on my Albrecht THOMA and look at this neat posting. THOMA/KAIFER and also Baden. Only need to go back about another 100 years. I don't know if this is the right Baden or not but am hoping that I may find a match someday with one of Johannes THOMA's brothers. Take care. Marilyn Genforum: Just a clue for you. I have both Thoma and Kiefer as ancesters. They were from Ebringen, Freiburg, Baden, in southwestern Germany in the early 1800's.

The Ortssippenbuch Oberöwisheim - Neuenbürg by Karl Diefenbacher and Klaus Rössler, page 549 gives Albrecht Thoma born 1658 married Barbara (---) Albrecht died 7.10.1731 at 73 years. Barbara died 28.4.1718 kath. Children: Johannes born 20.12.1685 married Anna Maria Blanckenbigner Carolus born Müzesheim 28.12.1688 "auf der Flucht" Johann Conrad born 2.8.1698 married Maria Margarethe Landvatter Johann Martin born 28.8.1700 Albrecht's )second married was 25.10.1718 Evangelische to Maria Anna Schlundt, katholic daughter of Johann Schlundt deceased Bürger zu Gross-Aurach im Bistum Eichstätt. She was born in Gross-Aurach and died 29.5-1726. They had 2 daughters: Ursula Barbara born 22.8.1719 died 30.6.1720 Anna Magdalena born 24.11.1715 ANITA SCHMIDT" following from gneolog@aol.com
There were some other THOMA men listed in the Church records in Germany that I can find nothing about a connection. If I remember correctly -- Catherine and the unknown Thomas had a son named Joseph (This is just from my memory bank so take it for what it is worth) and that there was some connection between that Thomas line and the Michael Thomas line in documents involving BOHANNON family -- a younger BOHANNON bought land from Michael and Joseph Thomas witness the will of BOHANNON, the father. Not sure where I put this info but I think this is right. Evangelical Records in Neuenburg In addition to Albrecht and his family -- there is Hans Thoma, Mayor and Attorney, died 1665, also a Hans Philipp, farmer died 1676 with two children George and Hans Martin. George had two children who died young and Martin died at the age of 18 Records show our Abrecht with 4 sons from his first marriage and 2 daughters from his second marriage both of whom died young -- 1. Johannes that we know about -- the patriarch of our Thomas line 2. Carolus born 1688 (no other info) 3. Johanna Conrad and Joahnn Martin- both of whom married and had children baptised at the Evangelical church into the 1730/40 time period. Wish we could find a line from the unknown Joseph to have DNA testing done. I am working on two unknowns in NC who I think are related -- one has agreed to DNA testing (YEA), the other line has yet to respond to my contact note. I hope that someone else can add info to my little bit. Take care. Marilyn
