On 5 July 1836 James Vaughan to Joel Hitt, for $500, his rights in a "parcel of Negroes" (Esther, Ann, and all of Esther's children) which John Hitt, dec'd, gave Elizabeth Vaughan, the wife of Russell Vaughan now dec'd. Negroes to remain in Elizabeth Vaughan's hands until her death, but then to be divided among the heirs of her body, viz, James Vaughan, Mary Vaughan, Nancy Vaughan now Nancy Hitt, William Vaughan, Sarah Vaughan, Elizabeth Vaughan Jr and Russell Vaughan.
