    James A. Jaques, Jr. (Jack) was born August 1, 1913 to James Alfred Jaques (Fred) and wife Hester Wheeler Jaques of Akron, Ohio.

    He was the second of three sons, Robert B. the oldest and William H. the youngest. Jack and family lived at 813 Thayer Street in Akron. The boys had a wonderful time growing up with, their Aunt Lena Loveridge, and many more doting aunts and uncles from the Armstrong, Wheeler and Jaques families.

    Jack attended North High School in Akron as did both of his brothers. Summers were sometimes spent in Whitcomb, Indiana at the birthplace of his father Fred, where his Aunt Edna would find lots of work to do around the family homestead.

    He graduated from Akron University, majoring in business and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. After graduating in 1938, he joined the Army for a year under the Thompson Act. He was a Lieutenant in the ROTC when at Akron University, and received his papers as a First Lieutenant in the Army in July, 1940. His fiancée Rosemary McDonald also attended Akron University.

    On April 15, 1939 he married Rosemary McDonald at the North Hill Church of Christ, in Akron. They made their first home at 1754 Hampton Road in Akron. He and Rosemary were both employed by the B. F. Goodrich Company in Akron where they had their first child James A. Jaques, III in 1940.

    Their second child, Jill, was born in 1943 while they were stationed in Texarkana, Texas at the Lone Star ammunition plant. After the war Jack left the Army and while working for the Youngstown Diamond Drill Company they lived Akron with Rosemary?s parents at 52 West Salome Street.

    Jack took a position as a purchasing agent with the S. R. Hungerford solid mahogany furniture company in Memphis, Tennessee where their last child, Michelle, was born in 1950. Initially they lived in a small home on Kenwood Avenue in Memphis before finally building their dream house on White Station Road. In 1954 he joined the Plough Chemical Corporation as an assistant purchasing agent. He worked for Plough for 27 years and went on to become the company?s chief purchasing agent.

    He oversaw and managed the company?s electronic data processing system in 1959. He was appointed Director of Operations Analysis for Schering-Plough in 1975, and became the administrative assistant to the company Vice President of Operations Analysis, a position he held until his retirement in 1982.

    Jack was the company advisor to the Junior Achievement program for seven years and was active in the mentoring program for inmates of the Shelby County Correction Center in Memphis. Jack was an avid sportsman and assisted in the founding and promotion of the company golf and bowling programs. He was a member of the Memphis Country Club and spent many enjoyable hours involved in his hobby of golf.

    Jack Jaques was a man of ideals, honor, and great integrity.
