5 March. Catesby Oadham, Sea Customer, having been for a considerable time indisposed, and there being a large quantiy of Bale Goods which the Merchants want to have clear'd, It's therefore AGREED and ORDER'D that John Emerson, who is next in station, do take charge of that Employ during the Sea Customers indisposition.
5 March. About 11 a Clock this night died Mr. Catesby Oadham.
6 March. This evening the President and Council with the Gentlemen of the Place attended the Funeral of Mr. Catesby Oadham, who was interr'd in a very decent manner with the firing of thirty six guns from the Batterys.
Thursday the 7th. Catesby Oadham fifth of Council dying the 5th Instant makes a vacancy at the Board, as also in the Employs of Sea Customer, Mayor, and Essay Master. ... Richard English having been instructed in the Mint Affairs by his brother in law Mr. Oadham so as to attain a good knowledge therein
Agreed that he be appointed Essay Master, the President promising to have a strict eye over the Mint Braminys and observe that they do their duty.
