Richard Hall, the grandfather of Elizabeth Evans Lucas- Beall, was a well known
citizen of Calvert Co, Md. On 26 Aug 1663 he entered rights in the Md Lan d Off
for himself, his wife Elizabeth and other persons. (See Libre 5 Vol 416 , Land Off
Annapolis.) He apparently arrived in the Providence not long before and m ay
have come from Va. While this has been asserted there seems no positive
evidence for or against this statement. (See Richard Hall by Christophe r Johnson
in Md Hist Soc Mag 1913, Vol 8 p 291.)

He settled in Calvert Co and was elected on 12 Dec 166 5 one of four
    representatives of his county in the Provincial Assembly. (See Md Arch Vo l 2 p 8;
    Vol 7 p 5.) He sat in the Assembly from 10 April 1666 to 1670 and again i n 1674
to 1685. He was a delegate for the Assessments of the Public Levy in 1678 .
(See Libre C. D. p 182.) In Nov 1683 he was appointed one of the
Commissioners for laying out towns and forts in Calvert Co. (See Md Arc h Vol 7
p 611.) He was a prominent member of the Society of Friends and his name
frequently appears on their records; he was one of the Commissioners of t he
Cliff's Monthly Meeting of Friends in Western Calvert Co in 1684. (See Mi nutes
of this Meeting p 13.) He was a man of means and large land holdings on e of the
very important Quakers in that county. (See Hist of Calvert Co by Stei n p 267,
also see Hall Family in Md Hist Soc Mag of 1913 Vol 8 p 291.) He d in 168 8
having made his last will 17 Sept 1684, proved 28 Aug 1688. (See Libr e 6 fol 13
    Annapolis.)

In his will he mentions his wife Elizabeth; to his so n Elisha he leaves 750 acres
which is part of his dwelling plantation called "Hall's Hill" w hich plantation
consisted of 1000 acres; to his son Joseph 250 acres being the remainde r of the
plantation "Hall's Hill," and Joseph also to have the adjoinin g tract called
"Micham," also 100 acres on the south side of that tract; to hi s son Aaron 200
acres called "Spittle," also additional "Spittle" whi ch adjoins "Thacham" which
land "I lately gave to my son-in-law, John Smith"; to his dau R achael, wife of
Walter Smith, 300 acres called "Aldermason"; to his dau Elizabe th Hall 300
acres which is part of the tract called "The Hope." To his wif e Elizabeth and his
dau Lucia, wife of John Smith, personal property. To his dau Sarah Hall 1 00
acres being the residue of "The Hope" and 200 acres adjoining t hat tract. In his
will he stated his children were to be brought up as Friends. He also lea ves to
"his friends called Quakers on the western shores the sum of two pou nds. His
plantation of "Hall's Hill" was located on Hall's Creek in th e northern part of
Calvert Co and he is said to have owned over 3000 acres of land in Md, an d was
one of the greatest land owners of his time, and was known as the "k indly

      Note:

According to George Johnst on's HISTORY OF CECIL COUNTY,
      MD p.480:

The early history of the H all family, like that of many
      others, is involved in
obscurity. There is reason, however, to believe that Richard Hall, from w hom the
distinguished family of that name in this county have descended, patente d a
large tract of land called "Mount Welcome" on the east side o f the Susquehanna
River, about a mile above the mouth of the Octoraro in 1640. He is believ ed to
have been the son of Bishop Joseph Hall of England. The earliest authenti c
record extant shows that Elisha Hall and Sarah Wingfield were married 1 6 Sep
1688. This Elisha Hall was the son of Richard (above) and Sarah Wingfiel d is
believed to be a grand-daughter or niece of the Mr. Wingfield who was Pre sident
of the Council of Virginia very early in the history of that colony.
