My mother's grandfather, THOMAS L. BOICOURT, came from France in 1770 a t the age of thirty years. He had graduated from a medical college in th e old country and came to America to commence the practice of medicine. H e studied medicine two years among the Indians to learn their ways of doc toring. He served as surgeon in the Revolutionary War. After the war wa s over he soon gained an extensive practice. In his constant practice, h e was unavoidably irregular in his eating and sleeping and other habits . He took the dyspepsia in such a form that no food would remain on his s tomach and he literally starved to death in 1789.

Found Wills of Edward an d Thomas Boicourt at Virginia Courthouse, Cass Co.,
Ill.   Edward died 1-28-1839.   The executor of the w ill was his son John.
Thomas was a witness.   Edward left everything to John with th e provision that
he would support wife Elizabeth until she died and daughter Anna until sh e came
of age.

This raises questions abou t the birth dates I have.   I have Anna born in 1829
which makes sense that she was not of age in 1839.   But an Edw ard birth date I
have of 1774 would make him 55 when she was born –  unlikely.

Also, I have Thomas as old er than John.   I wonder why John was left
everything.   Were John, Thomas and Anna the only Edward and El izabeth kids
who came to Cass Co.?   Ideas?

Thomas’ will was writ ten 5-5-1854.   It names wife Mary Ann and children
Susannah, John S., Jefferson, Edward, Nancy E., James, George W. and
Joseph S.   Wife Mary Ann and son John S. were executors of th e will.   They
lived Twp 18, N. Range 9 called Panther Creek Twp., east half of southeas t
quarter of Sect. 34.   Out in the country but nearest town appe ars to be
Philadelphia rather than Chandlerville.

When he died they had 4 ho rses, 10 cows, four calves, 22 pigs, 20 sheep, 27
geese and 500 bushels of corn.   With their stuff valued at $77 1.75.  

The brittle old document s tied in string were just darling.
