P.J. Johnson, 68, of Coats died Monday afternoon at his home. The Harnett County native was the son of the late Paul and Alder Johnson. He was preceded in death by brothers, Roy and Sam Johnson; and sisters, Virginia Reeves and Myrtle Strickland. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a retired farmer, a member of Coats Baptist Church and was an avid outdoor sportsman. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Coats Baptist Church by the Revs. Jesse Mooney and Ronnie Byrd. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Jenette Johnson; daughters, Teresa Jernigan and husband Ricky of Coats, Jennifer Roberts and husband King of Coats, Lois Hupfeld and husband Jack of Coats, Joyce Lee and husband Dennis of Four Oaks; brothers, Clester Johnson of Erwin, Hoover Johnson and Paul A. Johnson, both of Coats; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coats Baptist Church, 554 McKinley St., Coats, N.C. 27521; or to the American Diabetes Association, Raleigh Office, 434 Fayetteville St. Mall, Two Hanover Square, Suite 1650, Raleigh, N.C. 27601.
