Helen Wortham Mitchell, 72, of 120 Ebenezer Church Road, died Tuesday at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Granville County to the late George Wortham and Mary Elmore Wortham. She was the widow of the Rev. J. D. Mitchell and was a hairdresser. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jean Hood and the Rev. Rose Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her husband, Troy Pollard; her daughter, Betty Jo Dent and husband Tommy of Fayetteville; her sons, Billy Mitchell and wife Kathy of Pittsboro, Bob Mitchell and wife April of Kenansville and Brian Mitchell and wife Suzanne of Goldsboro; and her grandchildren, Barton Mitchell and wife, Marion, Jonathan Dent, Christopher Mitchell, Erin Haines, Catherine Mitchell, Leslie Dent, Benjamin Haines, Alison Mitchell, Luke Mitchell, Phillip Mitchell and Ben Mitchell; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Mitchell; and her sister, Sally Burgess, and her husband, Fletcher, of Princeton.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday night, and other times at the home of Brian and Suzanne Mitchell, 538 Ebenezer Church Road, Goldsboro.
