Mrs. Libby Tutor Carpenter, 85, quietly departed this life on Monday, Feb. 19. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Hubert Judd Carpenter. She was born in Harnett County, the eldest daughter of William and Flowery Baker Tutor. She moved to Durham as a young wife and lived here the remainder of her life. She was a homemaker for most of her life, but in later years worked for Durham Drapery.

Surviving to cherish her memory are three daughters, Rozene Stallings and Edith Miller, both of Tampa, FL., and Patricia Moulton of Durham; two sons, Jesse Carpenter of Winter Haven, FL., and Eugene Carpenter of Durham; four sisters, Mattie Avery of Erwin, Mary Bender of Winston Salem, Lena Mason of Sanford and Martha Autry of Dunn; one brother, Silas Tutor of Gordonsville, VA; 13 grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Her courage and strength in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew her. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM in Hudson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Danny Green will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Hudson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Pat Moulton, 2322 Shaw Road. The family requests that flowers be ommitted and donations be made to Triangle Hospice, 1804 Martin Luther King Prkwy, Suite 112, Durham, 27707.
