He devised his will on May 20, 1841 mentioning wife Candis who received the home plantation on Buies Creek along with daughtewrs Peneese, Lucresa, Luyza, Vienna and Candis, and sons Eli and Eldridge.
Per Mark Valsame:
Members of the Carter family later left Harnett County and settled near Apex in Wake County, NC. Eli Carter is buried in Apex City Cemetery. His grave states that he was born January 17, 1825, and died May 17, 1893. His wife Edith A. was born October 12, 1830, and died January 10, 1915. Also buried in the same plot is Eli's sister Candice. Her grave says "Candace Carter, w/o John Spence, b. May 25, 1828, d. January 19, 1899."
