DUNN -- Jarvis Alphin, 84, died at his home on February 11, 2002. He was co-founder of Alphin Brothers Meat Packers, Dunn, N.C. and retired from the business in 1983. He was a life long member of Long Branch Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. He was a member of the Dunn Rotary Club for over 50 years and was a Paul Harris Fellow.

Jarvis was born in Harnett County, son of the late Ernest Franklin and Lula Ellen Sorrell Alphin.

He is survived by his wife, Leona Dorman Alphin; stepsons, Rick Dupree and wife Libba of Fuquay-Varina and Ronald Dupree and wife Vicki of Dunn; granddaughters Leigh Anne Dupree Adams and Lauren Dupree of Dunn; a brother, Jesse Alphin and a sister, Louise Leonard, both of Dunn; a very special niece Jane Alphin Talley of Fuquay-Varina. Also surviving are eight other nieces and four nephews.

Jarvis was preceded in death by brothers Velton, Silas, Paul, Bruce and James Earl Alphin and a sister, Bertha Grace Alphin Norris.

Jarvis was known for his many beautiful rose bushes, which he enjoyed raising and sharing with his church and friends. He was devoted to his family and was loved by many.

The family will receive from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at Long Branch Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 1013 Longbranch Road (I-95 Exit 71), Dunn, and at other times at the Alphin home. A service celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, February 13 at 2 p.m., at Long Branch Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 1013 Longbranch Road, Dunn. Rev. Elvin Butts and Dr. William L. Ellis will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn.
