Notes on the Nalle Family -- http://mock.rootsweb.com/mlarchives/arc9512d. txt

In the period 1695 to 1749, there is one mention of a Nalle in "Cavalie rs and Pioneers" which has abstracts of Virginia land patents and grant s. When Chicheley Corbin Thacker acquired 3,080 acres in King and Queen Co unty in 1701, one of the head rights he used had originated with Martin Na lle.
Martin Nalle probably came to Virginia about six years earlier, say abo ut 1695.

The Orange County, VA court orders, 1734-1741, contains the following Nall es:
    John Nall: A-244
    Martin Nall: A-474, B-7(3), B-8, B-11, B-25, B-38, B-39(2), B-40(2), B-4 1, B-42
    John Nalle: A-425
where A and B refer to books. (I have not seen these but LDS film 00330 35 has details or order by the page at 25 cents per page).

A "1740 Reconstructed Census for Virginia" has no mentions of Nalles but t hat means little.

Below: Publication: The Ancestry of Bart Welch (1999) http://matsonfamily. net/WelchAncestry/other_families.htm

This site provides genealogy information on the ancestors of William Bart ow "Bart" Welch of Waynesville, Haywood County, North Carolina.

Families included in the genealogy are Aldin, Bruce, Cathey, Dillard, Hyat t, Ingraham, Love, Nall, Plott, Vance, Webb, & Welch. The genealogy also i ncludes roots of English and Scottish royalty.

The information comes from the book, the ancestry of Bart Welch, publish ed in 1999.

In other chapters of this book only a very few families have been document ed -- those upon which rather extensive research has been performed. The re are many other families in the genealogy. Presented below are several u pon which cursory research has been performed, or for which little informa tion was found. Besides these, there are others which are not mention ed -- indeed, many not even discovered or identified -- which are equal ly as integral to the genealogy of Bart as any other at the same lev el of lineage. Note that the genealogy tree identifies thirty-one generati ons of known ancestors of Bart lists 160 persons. If complete data were av ailable -- all ancestors in thirty-one generations -- the table would incl ude over two billion persons.

Martin8 Nalle: Some researchers say that Martin was born in England, 1675 -80, and came to America as an indentured servant in 1701-02. That resear ch also says that Martin married Mary8 Aldin in 1702. This is contradicto ry because as an indentured servant, Martin would have few more personal r ights than a slave for the period of servitude (likely seven years), and m ost certainly would not have been allowed to marry. And, even if he were p ermitted to marry, a marriage between an indentured servant and someo ne of Mary's station in life -- from a propertied family -- would certain ly be very unlikely. In 1700 men far out numbered women in the Colonies a nd any young, single woman could have her pick of many eligible bachelor s. It is unlikely that any woman would choose an indentured servant ov er a man with property or other talents to provide some comforts in lif e. Thus, while Martin was claimed on a headright grant it is doubtf ul he was an indentured servant.

Jane8 "Mary" Aldin was born in 1681 in Virginia, the daughter of Robert9 A ldin and Ellianor9 Willis. It is not known when her family came to the Col onies, but it was likely at least two generations before because as a you ng girl she had been named in her grandparents Virginia will. If she wa s, in fact, born in 1681 as a third generation American, this means her fa mily were among the very earliest of pioneers to the New World. Her ancest ry was English, and in fact, four generations before, her ancestors had be en English nobility, owning manors in Kent, Charing, and Lenham.

Martin and Mary lived in Essex County, Virginia where they were tobacco fa rmers. Together they had eight children, the second of whom was Winnifre d7 who married Thomas7 Dillard. Martin died in 1728; Mary in 1734.
