    Mary Green was born ca 1820 in North Carolina. She had at least the follow ing brothers and sisters: Jacob, Pink, Columbus, Frank, Elizabeth, and Car oline Green. Her mother's name was Margaret.

    She and her husband Samuel L Boyd were living in Benton County (current ly Calhoun County), Alabama, in 1850. They had five children: Augustus, tw ins Eugenia and Oscar, Samuel, and Julia Boyd.

    On 3 February 1853, Samuel purchased 555 acres of land from William and Re becca Love and on 17 July 1854, he purchased 911 acres from WW Hackwor th in Washington County, Texas, just west of the present town of Burt on in the Samuel Hinch League. Although no death date has been foun d, it is believed that he had died by 12 January 1856, the probable da te of the inventory in the probate records. His estate was valued at $20,0 79, of which $10,000 was land.

    In 1860, Mary Boyd and four of her children were living in Washington Coun ty, Texas.

    On 25 July 1865, Mary's son Samuel was accused of murdering a member of t he Garrett Mob, and soldiers came to the Boyd home in order to arrest Samu el. When the soldiers arrived, Mary and her children, Augustus, Samuel, a nd Julia were in the home. After the soldiers asked that Samuel come o ut of the house, shots were fired from within and one of the soldiers, Hen ry Bennett, was shot in the arm and later died from gangrene. Mary was cha rged with "armed resistance to the authority of the United States Governme nt". She was found not guilty.

    On 2 January 1868, Mary Boyd married WH Carmack and she continued to li ve on the original Boyd property with her new husband. He and Mary are sti ll shown on the 1880 Washington County Census; however, it is believed th at WH died before Mary's death on 25 March 1897. There was no mention of a ny remaining children in Mary's will. She was probably buried in the fami ly cemetery.
