    Obituary, uncited
    John James Kerr (handwritten 1956)
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, April 16, for John James Kerr, well-known former resident of Clover Valley. Mr. Kerr died at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Kerr, Willisville, Saturday, April 14 following an attack of influenza. He was in his 97th year.
Born at Arkwright, March 6, 1860, a son of the late Mr. and Solmon Kerr, he moved with his family, 80 years ago, September 10, 1876, to Bidwell and settled on a farm there.
In 1891 he married Annie Lockyer of Budges.
Mr. Kerr was a noted axe man and timber scaler. He worked in lumber camps during the winter months and farmed during the summers.
During World War I Mr. Kerr operated the Queen's Hotel in Maitowaning. Later in 1927, they moved to Clover Valley. Since Mrs. Kerr's death, January 22, 1937, Mr. Kerr lived chiefly with his son Tommy at Willisville.
Shortly after his 16th birthday he joined Bass Creek Lloyal (sic) Orange Lodge and was an honorary member for many years. In 80 years Mr. Kerr never missed walking a single parade. Last summer, due to extreme heat he drove in the car with his son.
In his younger days he was active in church work, due in great share to his interest and work, the Bidwell Church was built. He was also active in the construction of the Valley Church. For many years he was an elder in the Bass Creek church.
Truly a link with the pioneer days, Mr. Kerr often told about being in Sudbury when it consisted of seven tar paper shacks - one of which was the C.P.R. station.
He is survived by four sons: William of Little Current, Tommy of Willisville, Melvin of Manitowaning, Frank of Massey; two daughters, Blanche (Mrs. A. R. MacDonald) of Manitowaning, Mayme (Mrs. Ide Hembruff) of Sheguiandah; three step-sisters, Mrs. T. Lockyer of Little Current, Mrs. Wm. Jones of Red Deer, Alberta; and Miss A. M. Kerr of Owen Sound. A daughter Minnie (Mrs. Alf Lewis) of Sheguiandah predeceased him in 1918.
A short funeral service was held at the Tracy Funeral Home, Little Current at 1 p.m. Monday, April 16, conducted by Rev. C. Dodd of Espanola, followed by service at Clover Valley Church. Rev. George Bowers of Manitowaning United Church conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Dodds of Espanola. Rev. and Mrs. Bowers sang the duet "When the Mists Have Cleared Away." Mrs. J. G. Wallace was organist.
The pallbearers, six grandsons, were Glen MacDonald, Orlic Hembruff, Lloyd Kerr, Carl Kerr, Roy Kerr and Claude Kerr.
Members of Gore Bay, Tehkummah, Little Current, Manitowaning and Bass Creek Orange Lodges attended. Mr. Elmer McCulligh, County Master, conducted the graveside service.
Interment was in Hilly Grove Cemetery.
